There & Back Again - 1991

Experimental Ballad. Recorded September 1993. This is an odd piece I put together using my old Yamaha M2HB 4 track tape recorder. Guitar pedal effects, acoustic classical guitar, guitar pedal effects modified vocals. Heavily experimental music. Had a lot of fun using my various pedals (echo, flange, wah, distortion) on vocals and incidental effects (for example, gargled pepsi to get the "boiling mud" effect). Very weird but was fun piece anyway. Definitely experimental music.

Comment: 1991. This is one of my earlier pieces experimenting with several concepts at once. First of all, I was playing with my then fairly newly acquired multitrack recorder Yamaha m2hb playing around with forward and reverse tracks. Secondly I was experimenting with what I now call "Multi-track improvisation", this is a method where I would lay down a track (rythym, beat, etc.), then go back and on the next track play along with another instrument, but play straight through no editing or starting over. Then repeat for the other tracks. So it was improvisational and "live" after a fashion, while being my own "band". 2 forward and 2 reverse tracks, electric guitar in this piece. It starts out with 2 reversed and 2 forward, then switches them midway through to 2 forward and 2 reversed, the opposite tracks from before.
