Tolkien show preview Saturday/Sunday 9-24/9-25 2005

by admin posted at 2006-12-16 07:22 last modified 2008-03-14 08:01

I'm still compiling the actual series of shows dedicated to music inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien and his works.

However, I'm going to do a little preview show next.

Tonight's show I'll be playing around a dozen or so such pieces

This is in prelude to the actual shows 100% dedicated to such music.

Tonight's show will be Sunday, September 25th, from 4 am to 6 am UTC/GMT.

Here in the USA this translates as:

Pacific time zone:

Saturday 9 pm to 11 pm

Mountain:

Saturday 10 pm to midnight

Central:

Saturday 11 pm to 1 am

Eastern:

Sunday midnight to 2 am.

Many different styles will be played. I'll be playing the select pieces so far that I've come across that seem pretty decent to great. There are many terrible pieces out there alas (of course that's from my taste perspectives, and that's always subjective) ;-).

You will be able to listen online with just about any media player and operating system and low or high bandwidth.

The players that are known to work fine are (and there are many others):

Winamp

Real Player

Windows Media Player

iTunes

Xmms

BMP (Beep Media Player)

Amarok

Sharp Music Player (Zaurus)

and many others.

Operating Systems known to work fine include:

Windows 9x/Me/NT/W2k/XP/w2k3

Mac OS 8.x/9.x/10.x

Linux (i386, Solaris, and PPC)

FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD

PocketPC

Palm

Zaurus

Also there are two streams (bandwidths) to choose from. The primary is 64 kbps which sounds great and if you have surround sound enables separation and good bass response. The secondary stream is still surprisingly decent (though surround sound won't kick in and bass response isn't quite as strong) at 24 kbps for those with dial-up or low bandwidth issues or high costs for bandwidth usage.

To tune in, swing by www.thesyntheticzenshow.com or www.nekkidradio.com to listen.

Also there are 30 other DJs of all styles playing before and after my show as well at www.nekkidradio.com.

Additionally I take requests during the show from an online playlist (only on my www.thesyntheticzenshow.com) on my my website including over 4,000 songs (and so far over a hundred+ Tolkien related songs or through online chat.

The main series of shows will be coming up in a few weeks. I'll be doing anywhere from 2-4 entire shows 100% dedicated to Tolkien, but that will include some of the "worst" music as well as some of the "best". Tonight's show will focus on what I feel are the better pieces (so far). And then for the rest of the show I'll throw in other music that just "feels Tolkienish". The Tolkien pieces will be scattered throughout the entire 2 hours of the the show.

If you have questions or need help getting connected before or during the show, I am avaliable through IM (Instant Messaging), see signature at end of this email, and IRC at:

irc.merp.com

#merpchat

So, please tune in and help contribute (by listening and requesting) to the show! ;-)

Cheers,
